Frequently Asked Questions
1. Will my pet be given time outside of the cage?
Yes, your pet is taken outside of the cage
three times per day for a brief outside walking time to allow
it to eliminate. Extra outside time can be purchased separately
as a playtime or nature walk for $5.00 a session.
2. Will my pet be safe in the outdoor walking yards during the walking times?
Yes, there are approximately 38 individual walking yards with 6 or 8 foot fencing and gates. No pets are able to have direct contact with neighboring pets in the next yard.
3. Do you offer playtime with the other boarded guests?
Paws and Claws does not offer this unless the pets are from the same family, or if the owners give prior permission. We follow this policy to
insure the safety of all boarded pets. Rather than to assume sociability among the pets, we choose to follow the route of no contact. This insures your pet’s safety at all times while in our care.
4. What happens if my pet becomes ill or injured while boarding?
The owner(s) will be immediately contacted. If unable to reach the owners, the emergency contact listed in the pet’s file will be called. We will transport your pet to your vet (if open), or Triangle Pet Emergency in Durham, NC if your vet is not open. Should an emergency occur while boarding, your pet will be immediately transported, and the owners will be notified as soon as possible. All resulting vet fees will be paid by the owner, along with a charge for transporting your pet to the veterinarian.
5. Are the kennels air conditioned and heated?
The entire interior of the building is heated and cooled. Your pet will be kept in a heated or cooled area throughout their boarding. Extra precautions are taken in extreme heat or cold to make certain your pet is comfortable.
6. What if the power goes out?
Paws and Caws has a back-up generator that will automatically cut on in a power outage. The generator will power the entire building.
7. What are your holiday policies?
We are closed for business on the following dates: Easter Sunday; Memorial Day, July 3 and 4th, Labor Day; November 24, 25, 26; December 24, 25, 26; New Year’s Eve; and, New Year’s Day. No drop-offs or pick-ups should be requested on these dates due to our crowded capacity. We do not require a holiday deposit or a minimum stay, but we reserve the right to charge our new customers a deposit fee, and a cancellation fee for all customers for no-shows and cancellations made during these holiday dates.
8. Do you offer any discounts for pets boarding together?
For two pets boarding together (must be in the same family), the second pet gets a 5% discount per night.
9. Can more than one pet board in the same cage?
Our cages are large enough to accommodate two pets boarding together. However, these pets must be in the same family. The owners are responsible for any injuries sustained while the pets are boarded together. Even pets in the same family may not board well in confined spaces.
10. What should the owners do if an emergency arises and Paws and Claws
needs to be contacted after hours?
An emergency number is listed on our answering machine. Your calls will be answered or returned immediately.
